Koasati Pine Straw Basket -- Unfinished
Koasati Pine Straw Basket -- Unfinished
by Marjorie Battise

Koasati Indian Marjorie Battise provided this pine straw basket to illustrate the coiled basketry method. Longleaf pine needles or "pine straw" is used for the coils and raffia is used for the stitching. The Koasati also use wiregrass for the coils, but it is getting more difficult to find.
