Plain Gourd Birdhouse
by Luther Clifton

Luther Clifton was a traditional elder of the Clifton Choctaw community who passed away in the late 1980s. He was a community leader, as well as an accomplished craftsperson. Mr. Clifton made white oak split baskets, woodwork, and gourd dippers and birdhouses, like the one in the photograph.

For more about the Clifton Choctaw community, see also Splittin on the Grain: Folk Art in Clifton, Louisiana.
